A Khan Academy alternative with a daily plan
Khan Academy is one of the best things on the internet for learning. It is a nonprofit, it is free, and it has more than 840 courses from kindergarten through early college. Skill levels go up and down as your child practices, hints build into a worked example, and many multiple-choice questions explain each choice. For a motivated child who can choose what to work on, it is hard to beat. Some families want more structure: a plan for each day, lessons read aloud, and a report for the parent each week. That is where Gallop fits.

What Khan Academy does well
It's free, it's huge, and it's built by people who care about learning. The mastery system shows exactly which skills are familiar, proficient or mastered. Hints walk a child through a problem, and older students get strong math, science and test prep. Parents can link a child's account, make assignments and see progress. We'd recommend it to anyone.
Where Gallop is different
- A placement check finds your child's real level in each subject, so nobody has to guess which course to open.
- Today's Plan sets a short session for each child every day.
- Every skill opens with a short guided lesson read aloud by a natural voice, which helps a child who isn't reading well yet.
- A wrong answer gets an explanation specific to the mistake and a second try. If a skill stays stuck, a Skill Drill re-teaches it.
- A weekly parent report shows you how the week went, without logging in to check.
- Spanish is one of the five subjects.
Cost, honestly
Khan Academy is free, and Gallop is not. With Gallop you're paying for the daily plan, the read-aloud lessons, the re-teaching when a skill stays stuck, and the weekly report. If your child is self-directed and you're happy to choose the work, Khan Academy may be all you need.
Who should pick which
- Pick Khan Academy if your child is motivated, reads well, and likes choosing what to study, or if you want free test prep and advanced courses.
- Pick Gallop if you want each day planned for you, lessons read aloud, and stuck skills re-taught, with a report for you every week.
- Many families use both. Gallop's plan keeps its own lessons in order either way.
FAQ
Why pay for Gallop when Khan Academy is free?
You're paying for structure. Gallop places your child in each subject, plans a short session every day, reads each lesson aloud, re-teaches a skill that stays stuck, and sends you a weekly report. If you don't need those things, Khan Academy is a great free choice.
Does Gallop have an AI chat tutor like Khanmigo?
No. Children can't chat or type free text on Gallop. Everything is structured questions, and a wrong answer gets an explanation specific to the mistake with a second try.
Can my child use Khan Academy and Gallop together?
Yes. Some families use Khan Academy for extra practice or advanced courses. Gallop's plan keeps its own lessons in order either way.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Try 7 sample questions, or start the 7-day free trial. No card needed.
