A Miacademy alternative, honestly compared
Miacademy is a well-loved homeschool program, and if your child is happy with it, keep going. If you're here, maybe your child is stuck on something and you want a program that notices and re-teaches it.

What Miacademy does well
Miacademy covers a lot of ground: core subjects plus electives and world languages, all self-paced. It has helpful touches like text-to-speech, untimed tests, and dark mode, and parents get attendance and academic reports. You can pause a monthly plan for one to three months. For high school, MiaPrep Online High School is accredited, with teacher-graded assignments, live office hours, and a diploma. If you want that, it's a real option.
Where Gallop is different
Gallop is built around one question: is your child stuck, and what should happen next?
- A placement check finds your child's real level in each subject. It can seat them below or above their enrolled grade.
- Every skill opens with a short guided lesson, so your child is taught before being tested.
- When your child picks a wrong answer, Gallop says why that answer is wrong, specific to the mistake, and gives a "second look" to try again.
- If a skill stays stuck, Gallop opens a Skill Drill that re-teaches it.
- Today's Plan sets each day's session for each child.
For struggling readers, the Reading Path works up a decoding ladder, one step a day. A natural voice reads questions and lessons aloud, including a Spanish voice.
One plan from kindergarten to 12th grade
Gallop covers every grade K-12 on the same plan. If you have a second grader and a ninth grader, the Family plan covers both, up to 4 children, for $54 a month. Each grade is a course of ordered units and lessons, so your child always knows where they are: "Unit 2 of 7, Lesson 3 of 6."
What you see as a parent
A weekly progress report, a dashboard with tutor's notes, and a five-minute tip to do together at home. A certificate when your child clears a grade.
FAQ
What if my child is in high school?
Gallop covers grades 9-12 in all five subjects on the same plan. If you need an accredited program with a diploma, MiaPrep Online High School offers that. See their site for details.
Is Gallop safe?
No ads, data is never sold, and children can't type free text or chat with strangers. Everything is structured questions. Parental consent is collected by email under COPPA.
Can my child start Gallop partway through the year?
Yes. The placement check finds where your child really is in each subject, so you can start any time.
