A Power Homeschool alternative
Power Homeschool gives parents Acellus video courses for every grade, PreK through 12. Each lesson starts with a short video taught by a teacher, then practice problems, and the system grades the work and keeps records for you. There are hundreds of courses, and each child can take up to 6 at a time. If your child learns well from a teacher on video, it is a flexible, well organized program. If your child needs a mistake explained the moment it happens, or $79 to $99 a month is a stretch, Gallop is worth a look.
The short version
| Power Homeschool | Gallop | |
|---|---|---|
| One child, monthly | $79 to $99 a month (their enrollment page, Oct 2026), up to 6 courses at a time | $34, all five subjects |
| More children | Enrolled per student | Family plan: $54/month for up to 4 children |
| Yearly | Monthly plan | $348 for one child, $552 for up to 4 |
| Grades | PreK-12 | K-12 |
| Subjects | Language arts, math, science, social studies, foreign language, career and technical, English learning, STEM and technology | Math, English language arts, science, social studies, Spanish |
| How lessons are taught | Short video lesson taught by a teacher, then practice problems | Short guided lesson read aloud by a natural voice, then questions |
| Placement | Courses are recommended by age, and parents can change them. Students start at the beginning of each course. | A placement check finds your child's real level in each subject, below or above grade |
| After a wrong answer | The child must master a concept before moving on. Extra help videos, help problems and a lesson manual are there when a child is stuck. | Gallop explains why that answer is wrong, specific to the mistake, and gives a second try. If a skill stays stuck, a Skill Drill re-teaches it. |
| Parent tools | Live monitor, score reports, weekly goals, automatic grading, attendance | Weekly parent report, parent dashboard, printable Records report |
| Diplomas and transcripts | No diploma. Transcripts can be requested. For an accredited school they point to Acellus Academy. | Gallop is curriculum, not an accredited school. No diplomas or transcripts. |
| Free trial | See their site | 7 days, no card needed |
What Power Homeschool does well
The lessons are taught by real teachers on video, one concept at a time. Grading and record keeping are automatic, and the live monitor flags a concept when your child is having trouble. Older students have a wide course list, including career and technical courses. You can pause or cancel anytime. For a child who likes a teacher on screen and works well alone, it does the job.
Where Gallop is different
- A placement check finds your child's real level in each subject. A child can be ahead in math and catching up in reading.
- Every skill opens with a short guided lesson, read aloud by a natural voice.
- When your child picks a wrong answer, Gallop explains why that answer is wrong, specific to the mistake, and gives a second try right away.
- If a skill stays stuck, a Skill Drill re-teaches it.
- Today's Plan sets a short daily session for each child.
- No ads, data is never sold, and children can't chat or type free text.
Cost, honestly
One child is $79 to $99 a month on Power Homeschool and $34 on Gallop. Gallop's family plan is $54 a month for up to 4 children. Power Homeschool includes more courses, electives and transcripts. Gallop covers five core subjects and is curriculum only.
Who should pick which
- Pick Power Homeschool if your child learns well from video teachers, you want a long list of electives, or you need transcripts.
- Pick Gallop if your child needs to be taught one skill at a time, with mistakes explained and stuck spots re-taught, and you want one price for up to 4 children.
- If you need an accredited diploma, look at an accredited school such as Acellus Academy. Gallop is curriculum, not a school.
